How and When

The Resort of La Plagne

La Plagne

A resort for every level of skier, La Plagne provides varied terrain. There are long blues and reds for carving, endless off piste with fabulous tree runs, steeps and an abundance of powder fields. For the boarders there is a Board Park and huge half pipe, and if moguls are your bag then the olympic mogul field may be of interest.

La plagne is situated at variable levels with high altitude runs and glacier skiing providing snow-sure conditions throughout the season.

2003-2004 Link to Les Arcs
La Plagne has the largest ski area of any individual resort in the world. The ski area is huge with over 200km in La Plagne alone, and with the arrival of the 03/04 link with the neighbouring resort of Les Arcs there is much to be explored. It would be difficult to get bored.

The lifts rarely have long queues, and are mainly chair lifts or bubbles. There is the occasional pommer which may make life tricky for the amature snowboarder. The new connecting lift from La Plagne to Les Arcs carrying 200 people (it's a double decker) is an express form of travel, taking 4 minutes from end to end. It has been built on the success of resort networking by the builders of Whistler/Blackcombe in Canada.

Apres Ski and Resort Facts

La Plagne, situated in the Tarantaise area of the French Alpes consists of a group of 10 individual purpose built ski stations all connected by lifts or buses. Plagne Centre is the place it all happens, restaurants have a menu to suit all budgets with fantastic pizza, superb traditional Sayoyarde dishes and a Moroccan that is worth a visit. Nightlife may be described as limited, but a collection of cool bars and nightclubs will keep most happy. Bars such as No B'lm and The Luna Bar, famed for their Flaming Cacarucha's (a sight to behold) provide fiery entertainment.

With the bus linking all the villages, the concept of a bar crawl can be both challenging and fun. Belle Plagne and Bellecotte offer live entertainment and a diverse collection of bars from cutesy unique French to an Irish bar (cant get away from them !!). During the day, the mountian restaurants can be expensive, however they do offer superb mountain views. Coupled with a glass of vin chaud a more relaxing break from the skiing is hard to come by.
